How do models always manage to look marvellous? They often have complexion problems just like the rest of us - it's just that they're clever at camouflaging them! Here's how.

• Seasonally adjust your basic foundation colour. Take three shades - one pale, one that matches your skin perfectly and one darker - then and match. Add pale in the winter, saving the dark for the tanning season. Use the shad ethat matches best as a base.

• If your skin is basically good, why use foundation all over? Apply just to the centre panel and around the eyes.

• Many cosmetic houses sell colour correctives designed to tone down an excess of red or yellow in the skin. The green shade tones down a high colour, while the mauve lifts a sallow skin. Always apply after your moisturizer and before your foundation.

• Cut cosmetic sponges into wedges like slices of cake - the sides are ideal in size and shape for contouring.

• Leave foundation off at least one day a week to allow your skinto 'breathe'. Don't forget your moisturizer, though.

• Always cleanse and moisturize your skin thoroughly at night.
